Shrook RSS Reader App Reviews

50 add

Hello old friend

I used v1 of Shrook long ag and loved it. V2 was a step back for my workflow, then Netvibes and Google Reader came along, so desktop readers are no longer my bag. So this is just a curtesy rating for one of the most useful apps ever. Thanks, old friend!

Great

It’s great. I strongly recommend it.

I Love it but isn’t working on Sierra

The app stops work after Sierra update! Can you fix it?

Fullscreen does not work anymore

I like Shrook and used it since Apple stripped Mail of the RSS-Reader. I updated to the latest version of shrook today via the App Store and for some reason the fullscreen toggle on the upper right side of the window disappeared. I found no way to get it to fullscreen mode. If anyone can comment or help me out I whould give Shrook 5 stars right away. Thanks.

Quite disappointing...

I was looking forward to having a good RSS reader on the Mac that synched with the iPad, but unfortunately this isnt it. 1) Safari has a better RSS reader, and has the ability to use the Reader functionality which removes unneccesary interface elements. 2) The iPad app didnt synch with my account, and just displayed, well nothing... with no feedback as to what the problem is or whether the password is incorrect or anything. 3) There is no way to intuitively move an RSS feed into a group. Youd think you could just drag a feed into a group to organize your feeds, but it doesnt work for me. 4) It isnt really free. This is a 30 day trial, and it doesnt seem to be quite clear in the app description. I am looking forward to an update to this app, and if they fix the above-mentioned issues I will take another look at it. Until then, Ill keep looking for an RSS reader that works on the iPad and the Mac. P.S. I dont mind paying for an app like this, if it worked and was intuitive to use, but unfortunately this one has a ways to go.

Expected that it would grab my RSS feeds from Safari and Mail

It looks like a good app, but I dont want to have to repopulate this app with my feeds. It should be able to draw automatically from Safari and Mail as separate items so that I can use either reader if I choose. Wont be using this app until then. Add that ability and Ill change my rating for sure.

Incompatible with macOS Sierra?

It does not work on macOS Sierra Public Beta.

butanka

thank you, nice and easy

Has potential, a very good start

Could be prettier for sure. If it has google reader integration, it wasnt _immediately_ obvious to me, very nice app though. worth trying.

Pointless

Safari and/or Mails RSS feed readers are just like Shrook, so this app is pointless. Headlines is good though.

This is a good start....

However its a little clunky and sometimes slow to refresh. However its clean and definitely usable. Side note: Why is this only 32 bit?

needs more view options.

Seems to do exactly what you would expect an RSS reader to do. However, I would like to have a smaller view that just shows headlines in a long narrow list, kinda like the layout of the twitter app. A button to expand to standard view would be nice for when a headline catches your eye. I use a large monitor and would like to have a twitter feed, messenger list, and RSS feed all docked along the edge. So far the RSS is the only thing missing, since I cant shrink this one small enough. Please consider a view like this for an update.

Decent

This app will score much higher if they get their Twitter support figured out. There is no automatic link shortening, and it was unable to post to my twitter account.

Very cool...

Easy to use. The only problem is can be quite slow to load a page and might not load videos. But thankfully there is a link to the main website right below the article, so all in all, great app.

Gets the job done, more or less

Functionality of this program is fine...layout is pretty decent, and the ability to view a post as a web page from within the program is very, very nice. The only thing I dont like about the program is its barely customizable at all. Not being able to move stuff around and rename and regroup feeds easily (or at all, in many cases) means that its a lot more difficult to use than a lot of less capable readers. There also arent any instructions. Im sure the program does a lot that I havent figured out yet, but thats because it doesnt tell you anything it does or how to do it. If a programmer and software designer finds it difficult to accomplish even simple tasks (and downright impossible to figure out more advanced functions) within the program, then its designed pretty poorly. In sum, good program, but not user-friendly at all.

Kinda useless app

I was looking for something that could match my experience of using PULSE on my ipad, but on a desktop. This is not it. It will not subscribe to 1/2 the feeds I have in pulse. Pretty sad, as I type in the same address in Apples mail and the feed loads. Will be deleting this app.

short time user of Shrook costs money!

Shrook states that its "FREEWARE" We have had it for a short while and are now suposed to pay them! "Buy another year for just $19.95, or Buy another month for just $2.50, or Pay monthly automatically" We find it dificult to evaluate an app that portends to be FREE but is not. Confusion can only be worth one star?

Great app for busy Moms with little time to keep up...

I love this app!!! I rarely have time to catch up on my favorite blogs, and newsfeeds, and Shrook makes it so much easier!! I have it installed and synchronized on both my MB Air, and our iPad. Whether I have 5 minutes of speed reading, or an entire "nap time" to myself, I can quickly skim through Shrook and get caught. The interface is simple, and its also very intuitive. Super easy to use for a novus. Check it out.

Nothing in life is free

This app is subpar as a free app, that is for the first month your allowed to use it. It has no notice of becoming a subscription until your time expires. I wish they were up front about this as I do not wish to download files on my PC that are only for a trial basis.

Decent App

I downloaded this app to help keep me up to date on all of the tech news that I follow and figured that since you could keep this app updateded between all of your macs it would be great. It was great for my iMac and MacBook but to me it was a pretty big fail on the iPhone, the app doesent allow you to read full posts on youre phone which to me is kinda of a big deal, I like to be able to sit and read a tech or a news artical on my phone when I get some free time throughout my day, not just part of one. Other then then phone not being able to get the full artical this app is pretty decent.
