Shrook RSS Reader App Reviews

Solid

A solid yet unspectacular app. I wish the article previews were longer and the images were bigger, but that may be an issue on the feeds end (Engadget stories come in with full-size pictures and full text, which is awesome). The inability to customize is odd, and not great. But it IS very easy to add feeds once you set Shrook as your defaults RSS reader. The "Feed Guide" is pretty weak, but once you set Shrook as your default you can open any sites RSS feed and add it directly to the app. Overall, pretty good.

speedy and customizable

I like this app because not only is it fast but it also has several options for customizing. Its also easy on the eyes and makes viewing RSS feeds a pleasure and cinch! Great app!

Finally - a real alternative to Google Reader

Ive basically been looking for a service that will let me keep my news in sync wherever I am and not be Google Reader (due to privacy requirements) Two things. Again: 1) read and keep my news in sync wherever I am and 2) not be Google Reader. Answer: Shrook. A full year of syncing costs $19 but Id rather pay it than have an advertising company know everything I read. A big thanks to the developer for the service and apps!

Very intelligent app; great tool and well thought integration with Twitter

This is a contemporary app and demonstrates its developers keen sense of the trend in media consumption paradigm. I have switched to consuming all my news via Twitter. Pretty much all my RSS feeds are available via Twitter streams and I wanted a Twitter stream reader with built-in web browser support. I searched wide and found SHrook. The integration of Twitter is done smartly, the app is quite customizable and very fast. My reccomendations to improve the app: - add additional Twitter stream-reading functionality such as support for Twitter lists - no need to add other Twitter bells and whistles - keep it simple - more customization to make it easy on the eyes: customizable background color, font colors, highlighting etc - more configurable reading configurations: ability to change number of visible panes and configurable views All in all a solid, good looking app that could grow up into a high performance and sophisticated app without feature-bloat. Thank you to the developer for your wonderful work and the inexpensive app.

Cant believe this is free

This is the best local RSS feed reader Ive seen in a long time. Im so glad it observes CSS in my feeds correctly, and I really like the interface.

Outdated UI

Very Complex and UI is outdated.

I dont need update!!!

i dont need update! i was uninstall this app from my mac, why remind me again, again, again!!! please fix this bug!

no query strings?

It doesnt seem to accept feeds that have queystrings in them

Not Bad

Pretty good application. Only problem i have with it, is when adding news feeds, I got dupes. Ok, ok, ok, I go and create a new group. Instead of moving the new feeds to that group, it copies em, leaving me with dupes. Sorry boys but i give it 3 stars, cause of it being so lame. Cant move feeds, it only copies em. Cant delete the mistake feeds, grrrr. Guess Ill stick with headlines. The only nice features about this is twitter and syncronizing. pretty sorry when it requires a subscription fee. I woud have knocked it down to one star, but the fact that it handles so much, saved it.

Didnt work for me

Cant write a good review. I couldnt get this to work like it was supposed to and I tried contacting support and its been weeks and they never responded. So I just gave up and decided to use another RSS app. I dont understand why so many developers have such poor support. Many have few if any instructions on their app and then they dont respond to questions. Maybe some people are more tech savvy and can figure things out. Esp with games - many of them have no instructions. So Im just going to start deleting most of what IVe downloaded cuz if I cant figure them out or they dont work as advertised, then theres no reason to have them take up room in my computer

Clunky but otherwise great

The interface feels like something from 2002 but it works great and for my simple needs, Im happy. Cant beat the price, either.

Pretty decent app

Two things I would like: 1) to be able to collapse/hide columns. 2) Full screen app support. Other than that, this app totally works as advertised. Nice Safari integration as well.

Just what I needed

There are just a few subscriptions I used to access through Safaris built-in RSS support. Now that it is gone, I tried a bunch of readers. All fell short until this one. The feeds I access are PDFs. Most of the readers I tried invoked Safari to download them, and I had to enable auto opening of safe downloads to get automatic launching of Preview. (I didnt want to do that!) I like Shrooks browser independence. I also like the fact that I can also now also sync these subscriptions across my iPad and iPhone. Thanks! (If the iOS apps added send to iBooks, and the iPad app added full-frame reading, everything would be perfect) :)

Great little RSS application

I looked around for something to read RSS articles after Apple dropped RSS support from Safari (bad move). I downloaded this application and I find it works reall well. Nothing fancy, but it just works.

It Does the Job for Free

Like other reviewers, I had to go scrambling for an app to take the place of Safaris dropped RSS reader support. I really didnt want to spend any money on something that I had for free in the old Safari, so I tried this app out and it does the job. The interface is a bit clunky. It would be nice to have more flexibility over when columns are shown and hidden. Other than that, I have no complaints. Plus, for free, its hard to complain even about those two things. Using the Subscribe to Feed Safari extension and this app isnt as seamless as the Safari RSS reader was, but its a workable solution.

May not be pretty, but it gets the job done

five stars

It suddenly quited several times. I gave up.

Just what I was looking for!!

I had been looking for a news reader that did not need a google account. This free reader has worked great for me and no is account required for reading feeds. I dont subscribe to a huge number of feeds, so adding them back in was pretty easy. The interface might be considered a little dated in that its more aligned with older versions of OSX than IOS, but for me this is a plus. I am currently running Mountain Lion.

Clunky and not pretty

Others have already revied it as "clunky" and "not pretty". I just want to add "quits unexpectedly" quite often to that list. When opened and closed the columns and rows always snap back to a not very friendly default.

Suddenly quits

This application crashes almost every time I open it. Usually Ill start reading my feeds and if it has to load some content, it crashes. If I open it again, the same thing will happen. Im on Mountain Lion with Safari 6.0.1.
